**This was written to Mason for his baby book!**
It was Thursday night and your dad and I had just got done eating dinner at Five Guys Burger and Fries with the family. As we were driving home I thought I had felt a contraction. Before that I had only felt that feeling one other time, so I didn't really think anything of it. Later that night, me and your dad were discussing whether or not he should go to work the next day because we were going to be getting the keys to our new house. Dad thought he should stay home and get a jump start on the move. Dad went to sleep on the couch that night and I went up stairs and was playing on the computer and watching a movie. For some reason I was not tired one bit. I talked to my cousin Joss about how I was so excited to meet you, but was nervous that I was going to go over my due date since my doctor had said I wasn't progressing much. At about midnight I had decided that I should try to go to sleep, so I laid down in bed and tried to relax. Not long after that, at about 12:15-12:30ish I heard a strange "POP" noise! Something in my head told me that my water was breaking, so I jumped out of bed and ran straight to the bathroom. Not knowing what else to do, I jumped in the shower hoping that by the time I was done washing my hair and body that all the liquid would be out and we could head to the hospital. In the mean time, I am yelling for your dad as loud as I can. He didn't hear me, so when I was done showering, I had to run back to the side of the bed to get my phone. All the while, my water was still leaking. So I stood in the shower calling dads cell phone trying to wake him up. For some reason he was sleeping right through it. I probably had to call him about 10 times before he answered. I yelled in to the phone "Get up here... My Water Broke!!!" Dad ran upstairs still half asleep. My water was still leaking. I had not packed a bag for the hospital yet, so I was trying to tell dad what to grab. I was at this point excited, nervous and totally freaking out. This made it hard for me to even think of what I might need. So dad threw a few things in the bag while I called the doctors office to let them know that my water had broke and we were heading to the hospital. By this time it was probably about 12:45 and my water was still leaking (no one told me that it doesn't stop) and I had no idea how I was going to get clothes on to even wear to the hospital. I decided to just throw some pajama pants and a shirt on and just wrap a towel around myself. All the while, dad is still half asleep trying to figure out what was going on. We finally get in the car and decide that we should let everyone know that we were headed to the hospital. I sent out a mass text to the family from dad’s phone and call my mom. Everyone was so excited and ready to head down right away, but we told them to get some sleep until we got checked in and figure out about how long it was going to be. All the while I had started having contractions about 10 minutes apart. We got to the hospital and dad ran in to get me a wheel chair to take me up to Labor and Delivery. I was wheeled up while dad parked the car, then he met me up at the desk where we were checking in. From the time we left the house to the time I was checked in and put in a room, about 1:15 am, my contractions had went from every 10 minutes to about every 2-3 minutes. They were getting stronger and stronger with every contraction. They kept telling me to relax and try to get some rest but the contractions were to close together for me to rest at all. I told the nurse that I couldn't handle the pain anymore and she offered me the epidural. At about 3:30 am I was given the miracle drugs, the epidural. Within seconds I was feeling relief and was beginning to finally relax. The nurse had checked me and I was dilated to about a 4. We turned off the lights and tried to get some sleep. At about 4 am, a few nurses came into the room. One put a monitor on your head while the others were looking at the screens monitoring your heart rate and my contractions. At the time, I didn't really think anything of it, until they said they were going to have to give me a shot to stop my contractions. I was apparently having a continuous contractions and it was making it hard for you to breathe. Your heart rate had been at about 80 for over 5 minutes. The nurse said she was going to contact the doctor and that we may need to do a C-Section, because I was not yet progressed enough to deliver you naturally. But at that point, they got my contractions stopped and your heart rate stabilized. We decided to let everyone know that you might be coming soon and that they could head down if they wanted to. At this point, I wasn't feeling the contractions, but I couldn't relax because my eyes were glued to your heart rate monitor. At about 5am, Grandma Shawna, Aunt Brittney and Aunt Carissa all showed up, followed by Grandma Kayleen, Grandpa Jim and Uncle Brock. Everyone was anxious to meet you. At about 6:30 am, I noticed that your heart rate had started jumping around a lot, so I called the nurse in to check it out. She checked me and I was still at about a 4, so she called the doctor in to see what he wanted to do. After looking everything over, he felt it was best that we should go ahead with a C-Section and started having everyone get prepared for what was to come. This was definitely not what I was prepared for and all I could do was cry. Dad did his best to comfort me and let me know that this was what was best for you. At this point, everything started to become a blur. We were rushed into the exam room, where I was quickly numbed and cut open. Within minutes they were telling me that I needed to push to help get you out. I remember one of the doctors taking the camera from your dad and snapping pictures as they were pulling you out. There was a curtain in front of my face so I couldn't see anything but I could hear them saying that the cord was wrapped around your neck. The doctors cut the cord and unwrapped it and I heard you first cry. Although I was completely out of it at this point, I knew that you were here and that you were safe. They quickly took you over and let dad cut your cord and wrap you up. I remember looking over and asking dad where all you hair was because we were told at your last ultrasound that you had a ton of hair, but all I could see was my baby's bald head. Dad brought you over to me and I gave you a kiss. It was the best day of my life. You were born at 7:26 am on July 1, 2011. You weighed 7 lbs, 7 oz and were 20 1/2 inches long. The perfect little boy!
